What is neck flange?
Neck flange is a proper term, divided into weld neck flang and slip on flange. The international standard for pipe flanges can be summarized into two different and non-interchangeable pipe flange systems.
Weld neck flange
Weld neck flange refers to a flange with cone neck and butt welding with cylinder or pipe. Belongs to integral flange.
Due to the transition structure of the cone neck and butt welding connection, the strength and stiffness of the flange are strengthened, and the tightness is better than that of the flat welding flange. The disadvantage is to use forgings manufacturing, consuming materials, manufacturing costs. Suitable for high pressure, high temperature or high sealing requirements.
Slip on flange
Slip on flange is the full name of flat welded steel pipe flange with neck. It is a flange that extends steel pipe and pipe fittings into the flange and connects with equipment or pipe through fillet weld.
The neck height of slip on flange is lower, and the stiffness and bearing capacity of flange are improved. Compared with butt welding flange, the welding workload is large, the electrode consumption is high, can not withstand high temperature and high pressure, repeated bending and temperature fluctuations, but the site installation is more convenient, can omit the weld patting kneading process, more popular.
What are the advantages of neck flange?
Neck flanges can be divided into two main types: weld neck flanges and slip on flanges.
- Slip on flanges with a neck can effectively save space, reduce weight and, more importantly, ensure that the joint does not leak and has excellent sealing performance.
- The sealing surface of weld neck flange can be made into lubricating type, high and low type and tenon type. Lubricated flat welding flanges are mainly used in moderate conditions, such as low pressure non-purified compressed air and low pressure circulating water, which has the advantage of low price.
What are the size standards for neck flanges?

- National standard GB/T9116-2010 flat welded steel pipe flanges with neck (Hubbedslip-on-welding steel pipe flanges);
