Neck flange – Weld neck flange & Slip on flange
Introduction
Flange is one of the fasteners commonly used in life. There are many kinds of flanges, including neck flanges. So, what is a neck flange? What are the size standards for neck flanges? Here’s what you need to know.
What is neck flange?
Neck flange is a proper term, including weld neck flang and slip on flange. The international standard for pipe flanges can be summarized into two different and non-interchangeable pipe flange systems.
Weld neck flanges
Weld neck flanges refer to a flange with cone neck and butt welding with cylinder or pipe, which belongs to integral flange. It is suitable for high pressure, high temperature or high sealing requirements.
Due to the transition structure of the cone neck and butt welding connection that strengthen the strength and stiffness of the flanges, and its tightness is better than that of the flat welding flange. The disadvantage is to use forgings manufacturing, consuming materials, manufacturing costs.
Slip on flanges
Slip on flange is the full name of flat welded steel pipe flange with neck. It is a flange that extends steel pipe and pipe fittings into the flange and connects with equipment or pipe through fillet weld.
Compared with butt welding flange, it has large welding workload and high electrode consumption. It also can not withstand high temperature and high pressure, repeated bending and temperature fluctuations. However, its on-site installation is more convenient and can eliminate the welding patting process, which is more popular.
What are the advantages of neck flange?
- Slip on flanges with a neck can effectively save space and reduce weight. In addition, it can effectively ensure that the joint does not leak and has excellent sealing performance.
- The sealing surface of weld neck flanges can be made into lubricating type, high and low type and tenon type. Lubricated flat welding flanges are mainly used in moderate conditions, such as low pressure non-purified compressed air and low pressure circulating water, which has the advantage of low price.
What are the size standards for neck flanges?
Flange is one of our common fasteners, so its production has a fixed standard. Domestic common manufacturing standards are:
- National standard GB/T9116-2010 flat welded steel pipe flanges with neck (Hubbedslip-on-welding steel pipe flanges);
- Chemical industry standard HG/T20592~20635-2009 PN series (European system rules);
- HG/T20592~20635-2009 in the Class series (American system) and other different standards.
