Elbow in the piping system

Elbow in the piping system

What is elbow in the piping system?

Elbow is a pipe connection that is usually used to change the direction of a pipe. It consists of a curved section of pipe that can change the direction of flow of fluid inside the pipe.

Elbow is commonly used in piping system in industrial, construction and civil sectors to transport a variety of liquids, gases and solid particles.

The design and manufacture of elbow needs to consider a variety of factors, such as the flow rate, flow rate, pressure and temperature of the pipe. According to the nature of the fluid flow and the needs of the pipeline system, the bending Angle and radius of the elbow can be adjusted according to the actual situation. Common elbow types include 90 degree elbow, 45 degree elbow, 180 degree elbow and so on.

Methods for mounting and connecting elbows:

Elbow installation and connection methods are also diverse, common welding, threaded connection and flange connection.

Welded joints are suitable for metal elbows, which are welded together with pipes to form a strong connection. The threaded connection is suitable for small diameter pipe system, through the rotary connection of the thread to achieve the installation of the elbow. Flange connection is a common connection method, through the flange and bolts to connect the elbow with the pipe together, has the advantage of convenient disassembly and maintenance.

What is the role of the elbow in the piping system?

The role of elbow in pipeline system has two main aspects. First, it can change the flow direction of the pipe, so that the fluid can smoothly pass through the pipe system. Secondly, the elbow can also reduce the pressure loss in the pipeline system and improve the efficiency of fluid delivery.

In short, through reasonable selection and installation of elbows, the pipeline system can be more stable and efficient operation.

Method of making elbow:

The production method of elbow includes hot push forming, stamping forming and middle plate welding three kinds.

1. Hot push forming

A push machine, mandrel and heating equipment are required. The finished pipe blank is placed on the mandrel, pushed, heated, and formed at the same time. This kind of production speed is fast, suitable for mass production. In addition, the elbow produced in this weay has beautiful appearance and uniform thickness.

2. Stamping molding

Depending on the material, you can choose cold pressing or hot pressing, and put the pipe blank into the outer mold. After the upper and lower die are combined, the pipe blank moves along the gap reserved by the inner die and the outer die under the push of the press to complete the forming process.

3.Middle plate welding system

Medium plate welding for large elbow production, first cut two medium plates. The elbow section is then pressed into half by a press, and the two sections are then welded together. The elbow made in this way will have two welds, so the weld should be tested after production and meet the standard.
